On Monkey Mountain, you’re not just an outsider looking in on a monkey world – you are right there in the midst of it all, with no barriers! For an “up close and personal” first-hand experience surrounded by 145 Japanese macaques!

During high season (June 15th until September 15th), our guided tours take place every half-hour. In early and late season (April 1st to June 15th and September 15th until October 31st), tours are offered at the bottom of every hour 9:30, 10:30, 11:30.....- 5:30)
As you take the tour with our primate researchers, you will learn a lot about the life of monkeys and their needs. You will get to observe 145 macaques just as they live in the wild, seeing how they fall in love, sometimes fight, raise their own children, as you will some that can swim and even dive. The guided tours take about 45 minutes.
Our macaques caused a huge fuss in the Carinthian media when they managed to escape back in 1996. But how could it happen? And what tricks did it take to recapture them? This tour includes our various security measures and a demonstration of the so-called “shooting jacket”. Length of this adventure tour: about 1 hr. 10 min.
